Gallen (37) and the oldest player in the competition, will hang up his boots at the end of the 2019 season. Which comes as a shock to absolutely no one apart from Gallen himself.
At 37 years of age, it must be said Gallen is still doing pretty well for himself. The NRL is a brutal competition and Gallen is currently the oldest player limping around.
Gallen announced his retirement from representative football two years ago when he realised he wasn’t going to be picked anymore. A few months after his announcement to retire from rep footy, he came out of retirement to play City vs Country. It seems just like every other sports fan, Gallen had forgotten about City vs Country.
In many ways, Gallen announcing his retirement is quite a genius move. It basically ensures that he won’t be dropped to reserve grade all year regardless of his on-field performances. Gallen has been planting the seeds of his media career once his playing career comes to an end. So, we will be seeing plenty of that big ugly mug of his even after his footy career has come to an end.
Gallen has also been beating up old men in the boxing arena and has called out Sonny Bill Williams several times over the last few years. After knocking out John Hopoate recently, Gallen even gained some QLD fans. But he lost them again as soon as he opened his mouth.
