It was a hat trick week for Australian politics as three candidates dropped out of the race in the next Federal election. In what was meant to be a week of campaigning on the actual issues, the major parties instead engaged in a competition to outdo each other’s stupidity.
One Nation candidate Steve Dickson kicked things off after footage of him in a strip club was released. As embarrassing as his actions were, groping women and making lewd comments, the worst part was when he thought the stripper was actually into him.
Liberal candidate Liz Whelan then one-upped Steve with an anti-Muslim comment on Facebook, a far greater crime than saying, “Titties” to a stripper. Never to be outdone, Labor then took things up a notch when Luke Creasey was revealed to have cracked some good old fashioned rape jokes, even though there has never been a time period that they were funny in.
When it comes to this weeks antics, political pundits all agree that the worst thing is that all three parties managed to make Fraser Anning’s party look competent for once. No one knows what next week will bring, but there is concern that by the time May 18 rolls around there many not be any candidates left.
