“Death Vader was asthmatic too, so that’s kinda cool,” said Ima Nerdlinger (27).
International Star Wars Day – May the 4th – has long been celebrated by nerds around the globe due to the fact that they get to walk around saying to people, “May the fourth be with you.” Non-Star Wars fans do not always find this amusing, which perhaps might explain how World Asthma Day ended up falling on the exact same date.
Wearing a fully decked-out Yoda costume at his job as an accountant, a diehard Star Wars fan took time out from eating lunch alone to voice his displeasure.
“I’m outraged that we have to share our day with asthma. This is Lucasphobic! They’re mocking our way of life. Although, Darth Vader was asthmatic, so that’s kinda cool,” wheezed Ima Nerdlinger (27).
Despite being miffed at the perceived slight, it did not stop nerds everywhere from arranging midnight screenings of the films, after checking that it was okay with their parents to pick them up.
A long-held stereotype of nerds is that they love Star Wars, have asthma, and don’t have girlfriends, so maybe Ima and other Stars Wars fans should count their lucky stars that they ended up sharing the date with asthma instead of World Singles Day.
