“Now that I can’t make money off of him, I think it’s time,” said Dana.
Having won his last fight in 2010, BJ Penn has been able to perform an almost Vatican worthy miracle by staying on the UFC’s active roster. Reigning champ and pound-for-pound fighter Demetrius Johnson lost a close five round title fight – which many thought he won – only to be axed before he had time to hit the showers.
Not BJ Penn though, who fought a draw followed by seven losses before Uncle Dana decided it was time to retire – a time which happens to coincide with the company being unable to make money off him. Red-faced goof Dana naturally resents this accusation, because he hates any accusation that involves the truth.
“That’s bullshit. I gave BJ the same chances Demetrius got – except the whole seven fight losing streak thing. See, they’re the same! And don’t pretend that I don’t care about BJ either. It’s just now that I can’t make money off of him, I think it’s time,” said Dana.
While great fighters get cut and guys like CM Punk get a second fight after a loss, it seems the only real reason fighters get released is because the run afoul of Uncle Dana and his giant ego. Which begs the real question, what did BJ do to upset the Great Red Faced One?
