In a classic bungle of forward planning, the UFC set an event in Sydney on October 6th – the same date as the National Rugby League Grand Final. Given that most Aussies will be watching the footy rather than going to a fight, they’ve come up with a genius solution – keep the event date but possibly move the main event to another card. Unfortunately for Australia and New Zealand, they’d be moving the Whittaker-Adesanya fight – the two biggest fighters from the region. Even worse for Australasian fans is that this would deprive us from seeing Whittaker inevitably pull out with yet another injury from yet another event.
“Ah man, I’m looking forward to him pulling out with an injury,” said longtime UFC fan, Chet Foodstains (28). “Whether it’s a hand injury or staph, Whittaker has a real pattern of fight one, pull out of one, fight one, pull out of one – and he was on track for his next pull out from the Sydney fight. I’m just worried this might mess with his mojo because it has been working for him for so long.”
Sports fans have long believed in superstitions, and Chet may have a real point here that if the UFC pulls Whittaker out of a fight before he has the chance to do, who knows what the cosmic ramifications may be? Sadly for Robert, it may mean he’s going to lose his title which will be a huge setback for him – especially as his win one, pull out of one schedule may not see him get another title shot until 2021.
