The saying ‘winners are grinners’ couldn’t be more true for NSW coach Brad Fittler, who had serious doubts around him heading into game two of State of Origin. Shaking off those doubts, his team not only won game two, it went on to capture the series with an inspired last minute try last night in Sydney ensuring he will be back to coach Origin again next year. For Kevin Walters however, his future does not like bright at all, although he seems to think after losing two series in a row that he too will be back despite no one else saying anything of the sort.
“I’m sure they’ll have me back,” said a delusional Coach Whisperer. “I mean, why wouldn’t they? I’m so confident I’ll have this job next year I might go and make an investment in apartment blocks in Sydney – they seem to be doing well at the moment.”
Unfortunately for Kevin, Queensland won’t want him back because he’s lost two series in a row, and sports fans love winners. The idea that he has the full support of the selectors behind him has about as many cracks as the Sydney apartment blocks he has his eyes on.
At this stage nothing has been made official, but Kevin should know that his fate is sealed if the board of directors for Queensland Rugby League come out and say that he has their full support in the coaching role. As everyone knows, this translates to – once we have a replacement signed up, he’s gone.
