“Uh uh hem,” coughed Harry Up (27) for the seventh time.
On a quick trip to the shops this weekend, husband Harry Up (27) was keen to pick up a few snacks before his favourite show The Amazing Race came on when his wife threw a spanner in the works and accompanied him. What was in Harry’s mind a quick in-and-out operation turned into a 45-minute affair once his wife saw three different people she knew.
“Oh hi!” said a friend from hockey as they exchanged kisses on the cheek.
“Oh my God! How are you?” asked another friend two aisles over.
“So good to see you!” said another just near the exit door when Harry thought he was in the clear.
Standing off the side, Harry tried everything in his repertoire to move the process along – looking at his watch, tapping his foot, pacing – all to no effect. Naturally, this left Harry only one option: the gentle cough.
“Uh uh hem,” coughed Harry Up for the seventh time.
Given a sideways glance that informed him to stop, Harry eventually made it home just in time for the last 20 minutes of his show. And as he sat down and switched on the tele, his wife called out from the other room.
