NSW and QLD battle it out for the Premier with the hardest name to pronounce.

With New South Wales and Queensland experiencing record flooding and declaring parts of their state’s disaster zones, it’s only natural that both Premiers would deliver press conferences and emergency briefings. And along with that, present more opportunities for reporters and the public to mispronounce their names.

Starting with New South Wales, Gladys Berejiklian is a mouthful and a half. Berry-jick-l-ian? Added to that, Gladys is not a common name either giving people two chances to get her name wrong. If you thought that was hard though, it doesn’t get any easier north of the border with Annastacia Palaszczuk. Pala-chuck? Two z’s? Come on! Why couldn’t she just be Anna? Why the long-winded name, other than to give you the chance to step in it?

As the floods subside, both states move towards reconstruction which means even more press conferences and further chances to get tongue tied when talking about your states leader. Unless you live in Western Australia of course, good old Premier Mark McGowan doesn’t present this kind of problem.
