As boxer Paul Fleming walked out to the ring at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre last night, he was ready to bob, weave and duck out of his opponent’s punches – a skill that came in extra handy when a fate worse than being hit with a knockout blow almost happened: getting hugged by Anthony Mundine.
Fleming was in the zone, however, moving his body back and forth when Mundine tried to give him a handshake/hug. Luckily for Fleming, his reflexes were on point and he was able to pull a face and move out of the way before he got touched and possible tainted with the stench of Australia’s most hated sports star.
“Err. Get away from me,” said Australia’s newest favourite sports star, Paul Fleming (32).
Understandably, Fleming’s manager has been inundated with offers for Fleming to do public speaking, make celebrity appearances, hundreds of babies have already been Christened with his name and there are more than 200,000 different applications for Australian of the Year currently being made out in his name.
Keep up the good work, Fleming – Australia loves you.
