Channel 9 introduces new ‘Mute Phil Gould’ button.

With the 2021 Telstra Premiership in full swing Channel 9 have made a few changes this year to appeal to their audiences. You would be forgiven if you thought that North Queensland Cowboy’s great, Johnathon Thurston, joining the sideline commentary team is the big news, however that is not the case as footy fans now have the ability to put commentator Phil Gould on mute with the press of one button.

All conventional remote controls will now have a very special ‘Mute Phil Gould’ button to enhance the viewing experience of the NRL on Channel 9. This means no more put downs of Parramatta, no more repeating the same phrase over and over and, best of all, no more jinxing of your club when he says there’s no way they can lose before they turn around and do just that because he put the mocker on them. Debuting Friday night during the Storm vs Broncos match, fans are already singing its praises.

“When he said the Broncos were going to win 10 minutes in, I knew it was time to tap out. I thought, ‘That’s enough out of you pal,’” said lifelong footy fan, N. Arell (51). “And sure enough, once he was gone it was the best game I’d seen on Channel 9 in a decade.”

With the function garnering only positive reviews, Channel 9 may look to extend this function to also include Paul Vautin in the near future.

Here’s hoping.
